Old
Wives’ Tales
An
apple a day keeps the doctor away.
Drinking
warm milk makes you sleepy.
Long
labor means you are having a boy.
Eat
your carrots for better eyesight.
Have
a child lose a tooth.
Drink
cranberry juice for a bladder infection.
When
you can’t stop coughing, raise both hands over your head.
It was once believed that
how you ended the year is how you will start the next one. Therefore, you
should make sure you are wearing nice clothes, looking your best, have all your
bills paid and be with the one you love. This according to an old wives tale
will assure the next year you will retain those items you wish.
Another interesting tale is
the one that says if you eat the crust of the bread, your hair will turn and
stay curly. I can attest to this one being FALSE. I love the crust of the bread
and my hair is still straight as a board. I have tried and tried over the years
to curl my hair, even with perms and they only stay a week or two. Who made up
this crazy tale? We always want what we do not have.
When you hiccup, it means someone is
thinking about you.
